You have a special kind of presence
Welcoming emerald leaves
All wrapped up in shimmering light
With dappled waters below
Singing tunes that vibrate off the mountains
And ring to the skies above

I remember days
When the world was new
And the stars lived their lives in beautiful formation
When we knelt to kiss the buttercups
And rubbed dandelion juice across our pale, paper-thin eyelids
To stain them the color of sunshine
Days when we knew our places
In the shimmering galaxy that burned with life and love
I remember warm skin:
Not the kind that ached to be slashed and then shed
So that we could finally escape
The slender, sticky spider web ropes
In those days we ran through headstones
Our small feet painted with mud and toenail polish
Stomping over the dead
And disturbing the sleep that they worked so hard for

you asked me why i was
because i try to catch airplanes with my fingertips.
because i think if i reach high enough, i can grasp the clouds, and if i hold tight enough, i'd know it's enough to keep you here with me. and if i could reach far enough, i'd pluck the stars off the sky and string them through one of saturn's rings so i could tie them around your wrist. we can stay up all night, i'll lay beside you, playing with the flashing lights on your palm and secretly wish i was holding your hand.
because i dance, trip, fall, laugh, and repeat in meadows filled with faded stars and a powdery dust filled moon.
